Galeria Mobila (The Mobile Gallery) is an exhibition concept we’ve launched in 2017. It all started from a desire to be more flexible and abandon the traditional art show formula. Consequently, we partnered up with Urboteca (an ongoing project initiated by A.T.U.) and reconfigured their van into a mobile gallery (hence the name).
The Mobile Gallery presents itself as an alternative space designed to bring art closer to the public. At the same time, it acts as a portable artistic nucleus, infusing cultural value into whatever venue it happens to inhabit. It’s meant to provide a tool for artists, as well as a place for people to come together, opening up channels for talking and learning about art.
Noaptea Albă a Galeriilor 2018 “Pe Eminescu”
For our second NAG event, we decided to approach what happens in the Mobile Gallery in a site-specific manner. We decided to commission our artists to produce new works that will be related to the area where the M.G. was parked. This way, the MG became a locus where people could find artistic interpretations of their surroundings. From paintings, illustrations, experimental zines and installations, the exhibition presented in a variety of forms an alternative perspective of a patch of Bucharest.

Noaptea Albă a Galeriilor 2017 “Antistatic”
For NAG 2017 (The White Night of the Galleries) we organized our first group show with the Mobile Gallery. The gallery was stationed for two days in the courtyard of the Mathematics Institute in Bucharest and showcased a variety of works made by our artists. The whole event tested the public’s reaction to the concept of a pop-up gallery in a non-artistic context. Aside from that, The Mobile Gallery invited the people to come closer, to touch, to interact and have a more intimate contact with the work of art. It presented itself as a place where art comes closer to the people (outside any institutional framework) and where the people are invited to come closer to art.
